This week, I am shaving my goatee. Been thinking about doing it anyway, but also, men don't wear facial hair here, generally speaking. If they do, it's more often a full beard, or they are of the beatnik variety. I should clarify that I've always wanted to be a beatnik type, but it's not a good image to have during job hunting. It's a little surprising it isnt more common, since facial hair is known to help protect against UV radiation and sun damage, a thing that Kiwis should be very concerned with (since that Antarctic ozone hole hovers over us every so often.) Without it, I look younger. Since I lost weight, I have looked older (lines and wrinkles more obvious now that my face is less plump) so that it a bonus.
Tomorrow, Stacey and I are taking a free, one-day course called "Relating Well in New Zealand." We are missing the Wellington Zombie Walk to do this, at my urging. I am hoping it will be helpful to us as we adjust, and will be very disappointed if the class is lame. I will still post an entry on the Zombie Walk, if only to let you see what it's all about. Looks amusing.
