Pania of the Reef

While in Napier, we saw a statue of "Pania of the Reef," a character from Māori mythology. Again and again since arriving in Wellington, I have crossed paths with the tale and the character of Pania. While at the Te Papa Museum in the Made in New Zealand exhibition, we listened to a 60's (?) recording of the song from an old LP, and then again I came across her today on a poster for a local band. I felt she was trying to tell me something, and that I should share her story, so here it is for those of you that want to get to know her:
