Not much new(s)...

This week's photo is presented simply for amusement, namely my own. I laughed out loud when I saw it...not so much because working in the USA is preposterous, but because I was the one reading it at the moment.

There's not been much new to talk about this week, really. I did have a job interview today, so that is something. Time will tell if it will bear any fruit. Other lines are in the water, some of them promising. And, a few of my networking efforts are starting to pay off in the form of informational meetings which may lead to something down the road...one never knows.

In the meantime, we're biding time waiting to get in the apartment. Doing mundane (but important) stuff like setting up electrical and phone service, etc. We've been exploring the city on foot and beginning to feel like we know our way around! Also, last Sunday, we tried Dim Sum for the first time in NZ. Here, they call it Yum Char, and you MUST have reservations (or "a booking", in Kiwispeak) or you are outta luck, because it's very popular! In fact, we have observed that on busy nights like Friday-Saturday, reservations are the norm at most popular restaurants. The act of walking into a place and waiting in line is not really practiced here, or at least not as much.

I recently "discovered" the Central Branch of the Wellington Library, which is HUGE and made me very happy. Not only can I get my reading materials cheap (as in, free) but I can also check out DVD's and CD's for next to nothing. My plan is to swing by there every couple of days and pick up a different NZ artist/band CD, and start to learn which ones are my style. One band, The Chills, has made my list. Obviously, I am clueless when it comes to the NZ music scene, so it comes as no surprise that I had no idea there were so many bands from here. This is part of my U.S.-cetric thought process being revealed...the idea that there are bands I've never heard of that are pretty good!? Heck, what am I saying? That was the case with U.S. bands as well.

Enough rambling, you say? OK, will close with a confirmation to those who care that all is well on this end, we're doing fine, and will hopefully be posting some more interesting news in the very near future!

Thanks for the tip, I will write down The Tutts and remember to check @ the library to see if they have any of their stuff!

Yeah, actually we came away from our last trip to Auckland with better feeling about it than we had coming into NZ. There are some very fun and funky little neighborhoods, and the weather is probably a good notch better than Wellington's (though I do hear it rains a lot there!).

Even so, we are obligated as Wellington residents to engage in "Auckland Bashing". (grin)
