It's 5:15 am here in Auckland, I'm sitting in the hotel lobby on their internet station with a case of jet lag that's making my sleep patterns weird. I also picked up a cough which I less-than-affectionately refer to as "the crud" and it keeps causing me to wake Stacey up, so I figured I'd come down and do a quick check of the e-mails and give an update...
We arrived yesterday, no problems with the flights or anything like that. Only snag we've hit so far has been that the 4 bags we shipped earlier via air cargo did not arrive on time. They are supposed to arrive today, so we'll be making another run over to the airport.
Auckland is an interesting city. The downtown area where we are staying is very kinetic and cosmopolitan. Some things seem very exotic while others are mundane (the Subway sandwich shop, for instance). Lots of bookstores--it's been hard to resist buying anything but the tons of baggage we are lugging around is a good deterrent. Either way, I am on sensory overload, soaking it all up. We did break away from the city center yesterday to hit another area of town, a neighborhood called Parnell. It was quite nice, and we enjoyed a few relative moments of calm while eating lunch there at a place called the Strawberry Alarm Clock. Good food!
Aside from the airport, our plans today will hopefully include a visit to the Kelly Tarltan's Aquarium. On Sunday, we are going to try to make it to an ex-patriate gathering (assuming we can figure out where it is) and perhaps meet a few other recent immigrants. Should be interesting.

That is very cool, thanks! I think the number of visitors to mine is on the order of 2-3 people (LOL) but I am always curious if folks I don't know are perusing or not.
You KNOW I can't tell you who it was on the couch...they still live there and there is some likelihood that you will cross paths with them! Now, do you really want to have to stifle a laugh the next time you see that person? I can tell you this: It wasn't Tommy or Sally. But that is really no surprise. =)
YA'LL are doing OK, I hope! Time is short gonna do a quick entry but thanks for the words of encouragement. We're going hiking tomorrow in the Coromandel region, so I'll send you some pics! From the guidebooks, it looks spectacular, even in winter.
