Pumpkin in a Can

In honor of Thanksgiving...

Let us cut right to the punchline: There is no canned pumpkin in New Zealand. Ask for it at your local supermarket, and Kiwis will look at you as though you had sprouted a 2nd head, then ask "Why would you want to eat pumpkin from a can?" The answer, of course, is that I'm a lazy American! And, frankly, I have never really done it any other way. However, that does not mean there are no pumpkin pies in New Zealand.

Much to our surprise, we spied a pumpkin pie at Sweet Mother's Kitchen a few weeks ago. We were intrigued. Did they make that from scratch? Wow. We asked the waiters about it. They were amused, but also curious to know what we thought. Our waiter had never had pumpkin pie before, and wanted to know what Americans thought of it. So, we ordered ourselves a slice and gave it a try. It was quite good! Less sweet than what we are used to, and perhaps could have used a bit more spices, but overall very tasty.

So...a lone pumpkin sits in our kitchen at this very moment, beckoning Stacey to try her hand at baking without canned goods. As pumpkin pie is one of my favorite things in the universe, I'm also encouraging the idea. Wish me luck!

I think you might say...

"I'm keen on Costco" or "Costco is brilliant" or, perhaps, "Costco is sweet-as!" (which roughly translates to "awesome!")

The only problem is that I cannot see any Kiwi saying they love Costco! Hehe. Thanks for your kind words, too, it is nice to have cheerleaders!

Hope things are going well at your new job, too!!!
