Avondale Estates was the scene of a potentially disastrous international incident on Saturday night when the host/hostess (Sally and Ben) of a going away party for Stacey and I inadvertently displayed the flags of (almost) two nations (gasp!), other than the United States, in their front yard. In what was probably intended to be an innocent attempt at party theming, Sally and Ben broke the U.S. Flag Code and further generated confusion by flying colors that looked almost indistinguishable (from the road, at least) from the flag of the Confederate South!
(Editor's side note: At least two guests almost steered clear of the party for fear they were headed into a Rebel Stronghold, but then decided they owed it to their country to infiltrate the sleeper cell...imagine their surprise to discover the purpose of the gathering was to celebrate pacificism and flightless birds!)
Of course, sweetness and generosity of spirit are no match for patriotic fervor when it comes to flags! Sally and Ben must be made to pay for their mistake. Other 'free citizens' need to see the consequences for rebel-rousing and public kiwi-praising. It has been suggested that Sally and Ben be deported to New Zealand along with Stacey and I. Only in this way can they be made to appreciate their home country and how serious their crimes were! Even now, they are packing their things and preparing to be deported to a South Pacific penal colony.
But, the up side is that Sally, Ben (and their co-hosts Ken and Molly, who snuck out before charges could be thrown at them for serving Steinlager instead of Budweiser) threw a really terrific party for us and we had a great time. THANKS so much to them, and to everyone who came by! It was really special. And hey, we even didn't do horrible at the New Zealand quizzing...did we?

P.S. Gonna post some pics from the party this week, too, so check back!
